The pieces that leave our shelves fastest, season after season.

Renewable by Nature

Bamboo regrows from its own roots in three to five years — no replanting, no bare hillsides. The fastest-renewing material a kitchen tool can be made of.

Kind to Cookware

Sanded edges and rounded tips glide over nonstick, ceramic and cast-iron surfaces. A wooden tip has never scratched a pan, and never will.

No Metal, No Plastic

Our tongs spring back on the natural flex of the cane itself — nothing to rust, snap or leach into hot food. Just wood, shaped well.

Nine Pairs of Tongs, One Right Answer

We make more tongs than anything else, and they are not interchangeable. Match the reach to the job and skip the guesswork.

Know Your Woods

Six woods, one drawer. What each one is good at, and where you’ll find it in our range.

Bamboo

Technically a giant grass. Dense, springy fibers make it the natural choice where a tool has to flex and come back — and it grows faster than any tree.

In our range: Toast tongs, salad tongs, cutting boards, portion plates, toothbrushes

Beech

Fine, even grain that machines smooth and takes daily knocks without splintering. The classic European workhorse for kitchen woodware.

In our range: BBQ grill scraper, wall hooks, the baby brush set

Teak

Naturally rich in oils, so it shrugs off moisture that would swell other woods. The wood shipbuilders reach for first.

In our range: The sourdough spurtle and the 12-inch spatula set

Walnut

Deep chocolate tone with a satin finish — the dressiest wood in the drawer, and hard enough to earn its keep.

In our range: Antler-inspired toast tongs, rustic hat hooks

Acacia

Bold, contrasting grain and high natural durability. Made for boards that spend as much time on the table as on the counter.

In our range: The covered charcuterie board set

Cedar

Light, aromatic and naturally resistant — it releases its signature scent as you work with it.

In our range: The aromatic grill scraper

Where laboos comes from

Made on a Mountain Named After Bamboo

Our workshop stands in Zhushan Township, Nantou County — the town at the heart of Taiwan’s bamboo country. The name is not a marketing invention: Zhushan translates literally as “Bamboo Mountain,” and the slopes around town have supplied cane to local workshops for generations.

For decades the shop on Jianguo Road cut and shaped bamboo for other companies’ labels before finally putting its own name on the box. That long apprenticeship is why even the least expensive pair of laboos tongs is glued, sprung and sanded like something far dearer — the people making it had thirty years of practice before you ever saw the brand.

KAO CHENG CO., LTD. · No. 29, Jianguo Rd., Zhushan Township, Nantou County 557005, Taiwan

  1. Cut on the slopes

Cane comes down from the hills around the township, harvested at three to five years old — the age when bamboo walls are at their densest and springiest.

  2. Shaped on Jianguo Road

In the workshop it is split, planed, laminated and profiled into tongs, boards and handles — the joinery, not hardware, is what gives each tool its strength.

  3. Finished for the table

Every surface is sanded until it cannot splinter, wiped with food-grade oil and boxed. Nothing else touches the wood before it reaches your kitchen.

laboos — care for the Earth, care for you

Every laboos tool starts as a living plant, not a pellet of resin. We shape bamboo and solid wood into things a kitchen actually uses daily — then finish them with food-safe oil and nothing else. When a tool finally retires after years of service, it returns to the soil it came from.

laboos — Wooden Goods That Do Real Work

laboos began with a single stubborn idea: the tools you touch every day should be grown, not molded. A pair of toast tongs gets used more often than almost anything else in a kitchen — so we made ours from bamboo, gave them a magnet to live on the fridge, and let the cane’s own flex do the work of a metal spring. Everything since has followed the same rule.

Today the range runs from the breakfast counter to the barbecue: tongs in five lengths and styles, compact cutting boards sized for real kitchens rather than showrooms, teak utensils for cast iron, bristle-free scrapers for pellet grills, and a shelf of small wooden goods — toothbrushes, hooks, a baby brush set — that carry the same materials into the rest of the house.

How a laboos Tool Is Made

We start with the material, not the drawing. Bamboo is selected for straight, dense cane; beech, teak, walnut, acacia and cedar are chosen where their character earns the job — teak’s oils near water, cedar’s scent at the grill, walnut’s tone where the tool will be seen. Surfaces are sanded to a splinter-free finish and sealed with food-grade mineral oil. No paint, no lacquer, no coating that could end up in your food.

Care That Takes One Minute

Wooden tools ask for three habits: rinse by hand rather than the dishwasher, stand them up to dry, and wipe them with a little mineral oil when the surface starts to look thirsty. Do that and a laboos board or tong will outlast several plastic replacements — which is the whole point.

Why It Matters

“Care for the Earth. Care for You.” is printed on our banner because it is the test every product has to pass. If a tool cannot be made from a grown material without getting worse at its job, we do not make it. So far, the wood has never let us down.

What the Ratings Say

We do not print testimonials with names attached. Below are the public rating totals these products carry, and our own reading of what a number like that can and cannot measure.

4.6 average from 4,672 ratings

On a wooden tool that costs less than a sandwich, a sample of this size mostly measures two failure points: whether the built-in magnet stays glued and whether the grip stays splinter-free after months by a hot toaster. Both would have surfaced loudly by now. What the average cannot tell you is how strong your fridge door magnetized surface is - a weak spot on some brushed-steel finishes.

4.7 average from 3,955 ratings

Toast tongs live or die at the spine - the glued joint that gives them their spring. Thousands of ratings collected over years is a long fatigue test of exactly that joint, run in real kitchens rather than a lab. The number says little about feel, though: some hands want a stiffer squeeze than one thin strip of bamboo provides, and no average will warn you either way.

2-Pack Classic 8.7” Bamboo Toast Tongs

4.6 average from 2,252 ratings

For a small cutting board the questions worth asking are all about water: does it warp after wet weeks, does the edge crack, does the surface stay flat enough to slice on. A four-figure sample spanning years of dish cycles answers those better than any spec sheet. It cannot answer whether seven inches is enough board for the job you have in mind - measure your counter first.
